Welcome to Benin: 72-Hour Visa-Free Entry for Cruise Tourists

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to upgrade the country’s national tourism offering, particularly in the cruise sector, which has been rapidly growing in recent months.

Benin has reached a new milestone in the development of its international tourism offer. From now on, cruise passengers making a stopover in Benin will benefit from a 72-hour visa exemption, provided they are accompanied by a licensed travel agency. This measure, approved by Beninese authorities, aims to facilitate the reception of international visitors and enhance the destination’s appeal to maritime companies operating in West Africa.

A Strategic Move to Strengthen Benin’s Cruise Market Position

Implemented with the support of the Republican Police and in coordination with port authorities, this initiative reflects the government’s intent to ensure a smooth, well-managed, and secure welcome for cruise passengers. It is part of a comprehensive strategy to upgrade the national tourism offering — with a particular focus on the cruise sector, which has seen notable growth in recent months. Entry procedures have been simplified to offer travelers a better experience right from arrival.

A Promising Context: Luxury Cruises Drawn to Benin

Since the beginning of the year, several prestigious cruise lines have added Benin to their itineraries. Following the visits of the Seabourn Sojourn in February and the Crystal Symphony in April — the largest cruise ship ever welcomed in Cotonou — Benin has demonstrated both its hospitality and its capacity to host high-end visitors. At every stop, passengers have explored iconic sites such as Cotonou, Ouidah, Porto-Novo, and Ganvié, immersing themselves in a rich and well-preserved cultural landscape.

An Invitation to Put Benin on Every Cruise Map

With this new measure, Benin reaffirms its ambition to become a permanent fixture among Africa’s top luxury cruise destinations. The Benin Tourism Agency, in collaboration with port authorities, invites cruise lines and tour operators to begin planning their future stopovers and take full advantage of this momentum to offer their clients an exceptional experience in a World of Wonders.
